<br />
Happy Friday.<br />
<br />
I started March with good intentions. I did manage a few finishes, the bonus being I used up fabric in my scrap baskets and fabric cupboard.<br />
<br />

I did ask my girls if I made them some scrunchies would they wear them. Yes was the answer. I remember making them for them back in the 80's and 90's. Everything old is new again. I made 13 of them. I do plan to make some more.<br />
<br />

I have kept all my dressmaking patterns from when the children were little. There is lots of fabric in my sewing room to use as well. The Fred Flintstone short fabric has the year 2000 on them. Made a pair of boxers for David back then. This time around they are for Jude and Jacob. The sea themed fabric was used originally for a nightie for me. I have lost count of the number of times I have used this pattern and borrowed it out.<br />
<br />

These two hot pads for the kitchen have proved to be so useful. I used wadding leftover wadding from the circle quilt and used these two curtain sampler fabrics that were given to me years ago. Lovely and thick cotton, just right for the hot pads.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Now the ball of yarn has only been waiting for two years to be used up. The pattern I used I found on the net on the Redheart site and it is called Colourful Crochet Socks. They are supposed to be made in a hour. My hour took a little longer! I didn't have the yarn that was suggested but the lady in the shop I got the yarn from suggested this Caron yarn and to use it with two threads. You can see how much I had left over. I did realise after I finished I had used a size 5.5mm hook instead of a 5. The dangers of looking at your supplies in the evening. They fit perfectly so I do think your crochet tension has a lot to do with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqXfL0E0A6F344ngI1A9hZR-W9AmMzIiTiW4Yxt-eUf4qxJGFhe1h6pk1dP5rwaryGVza5HZtlc8aRGXrss2PkAOiroW-rnWCBg29GVFlegvQSnl-1R8BLsua_KE-ZnkWE37E3z6O9ugG9/s1600/DSCN1646.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqXfL0E0A6F344ngI1A9hZR-W9AmMzIiTiW4Yxt-eUf4qxJGFhe1h6pk1dP5rwaryGVza5HZtlc8aRGXrss2PkAOiroW-rnWCBg29GVFlegvQSnl-1R8BLsua_KE-ZnkWE37E3z6O9ugG9/s400/DSCN1646.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I have lots of projects in bags in my sewing room. The BIG plan is to finish them and then my sewing room will look so much tidier. In the bag with the wool for the crochet slippers was this project. Again using double thread, this time two colours. So over the weekend I will finish it up. I wasn't sure what size hook I used for this so tried a few different ones until the stitches were the same size. Can you work out what it will be?<br />
<br />
<strong>Bits and Bobs.</strong><br />
<br />
Earlier in March my sewing room needed a much needed tidy up. It was getting a little dangerous to walk from one end to the other. Had to step over cords etc. So a change to where the table etc was put in place. I was particularly inspired by a You Tube video by Melanie Sullivan of her Sewing Room. Melanie has lots of inspiring videos to watch.<br />
<br />
If you love gardening as I do you may find Hannah Maloney of Good Life Permaculture inspiring. Hannah is doing weekly videos of starting a vegie garden. Hannah lives in Tasmania, a beautiful part of the world and does give instructions for other climates and seasons. Hannah was a guest presenter on Gardening Australia last year. I do wish they get her back soon.<br />
<br />
In these times that we hopefully never have to live through again. It is indeed the small things that bring joy. Back on the 15th March we called into Dymocks at Midland Gate Shopping Centre and enquired about a Chess book that was suitable for children. They didn't have one but could order one. They said that with what was unfolding they would order it for us , we didn't have to buy it if we didn't want to. Well of course we are in regional lockdown now. The shop is out of our area. A no go zone for us. We got a phone call earlier this week. I said yes I still wanted it. The salesperson explained that it was $8.00 for postage did I wanted it posted here. No I said I wanted it posted to my Grandson. He asked where he lived and I told him. He said don't worry about the postage he had a worker who would drop it of on Thursday. Well last night we received a photo of Jacob smiling the biggest smile with his new Chess book. So a big Thank you to the staff at Dymocks Midland Gate.<br />
<br />
I have had a few people ask me when do you think this will be over. Well no one knows but it has made me think what are the first things that I will do. Besides catching up with family I can't wait until we get back to our fortnightly shop at the Kalamunda Farmers Markets. Sorry Coles but your veg are !2#&*. You see we haven't bought veg from a supermarket for years. We found that travelling a hour away to the markets and orchards at Kalamunda so much better. It will be good to get back to the two shops we get our other supplies from as well. Replenish in Kalamunda and Wasteless Pantry in Mundaring. We take our own containers and buy what we need. The other thing will be to go to the movies with Lucy. She bought me passes to the Luna Cinema. We have been once but I am hanging out to get back. It will be interesting to see what will be screening. Oh and to go to Garden Centres and Hardware stores. Our local hardware store closed down at the end of January. So we are left without a garden or hardware store in town.<br />
<br />
What are you planning to do later on? Please inspire us all in the comments.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful weekend.<br />

Happy days.<br />

<br />
Gosh a lot has happened over the past couple of weeks since I last posted. We are now in regional lockdown. So a bit of normality in our days is important. I love to walk. You meet all sorts of people when you are out walking and the conversations I have are important. So important now. This afternoon after lunch I decided to walk up to the tanks. This is where you usually don't meet a soul. <br />

These are some of the water tanks that supply our town. I did stop and chat to a young man who was doing some surveying. Apparently there is going to be a new roof on the tanks. He has to do the measuring then it will be sent of for tender. So life goes on.<br />
<br />

Next to the water tanks is the mobile phone tower. Another essential service, that is even more important now. Over the last couple of weeks I have spent a lot more time on the phone talking to family. As they all live out of our area and in different states and overseas it will be sometime before we see them again.<br />
<br />

Just to prove that nature is still going on no matter what here is some Paddy Melon growing. Come Winter we will be kicking them along the ground like we did as children.<br />
<br />
I will be back with the few sewing projects I completed in March in my next post. <br />
<br />
I hope everyone has some normality in there day. Let me know what you are doing to keep busy.<br />
Our lives and plans have all changed but remember that the Sun will still rise and set, plus you will still put the rubbish bin out! What can be more normal than that.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
We are into March and I plan to continue as I started with finishing projects and doing some quick finishes. Using up those fabrics in the sewing room and gifting them.<br />
<br />
Like all sewers I tend to save bits of fabric for one day. Well if they fall out of a pile of fabric I have decided that they quite possibly won't be returning to lurk in the cupboard. Instead I have to decide to use the fabric.<br />
<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So when this piece of waffle cloth appeared with one hem already ironed it was time to hem it then find something to decorate it with. Opened the drawers and right on the top was a bag of already cut out Frangipani flowers. Project completed, for the first few days it was used as a table centre. Now it is going to be used as a face washer. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I have been continuing to make our soap. I found a different recipe online. A lovely Brisbane lady who has a you tube channel called Elly's Everyday. This is soap made from her Castile Soap Recipe. This lot was made back in the middle of December last year so will be dry and ready to use.<br />

I made up two scarves with the Surfline Logo. I found the pieces of stretch fabric in a box of fabrics that I bought at a garage sale a few years back. I set up the overlocker to a rolled hem for the edging. I did plan to try and crochet around the edges but getting the hook through was proving very hard so that was decided against.<br />

All these projects have been quick and easy to do and most importantly will be used instead of the fabric sitting in my cupboards. I have decided to join in OPAM this year. The idea behind OPAM is to get one project done a month. It is always good to have other ladies joining in finishing up projects or starting new ones. Please check out<a href="https://tagalongteddies.blogspot.com/"> Kris's blog</a> for the details.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have been busy purchasing Aida cloth and some DMC threads for a new project. More details coming soon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have you joined in OPAM or maybe there is something else that you have committed to in 2020. I would love to know all about it and why you joined.</div>

<br />
Well I can hardly believe that time has flown so quickly. Lots of lovely things going on. We had Jude and Jacob back in January for a time. Lots of visits to the Library,walks around the river and park. They especially enjoyed the new skate park in town. Then the next week I was able to watch on TV the Australian Open, you would never have guessed at the start of the tournament who was going to be the winners. Celebrated Australia Day in the Park and went to the new Aquatic Centre the next day for a swim. It has been many years since I have been swimming in a public pool. Then in February we celebrated Jacob's 6th Birthday. All during this I decided to stitch and stitch on the circle quilt when I could. It is now hanging out on the line after giving it a wash. It has been dragged around the place and thrown across the floor to see where to quilt next time. I put in a few sheets of those colourwash things, they just came out a bit dirty. No colours bled which was good, as there were a few red fabrics I was wary off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgsMpwHuhHo5XUKhyphenhyphenbnARxpub72vR4QE7ZoBMLod97GExdEv7N2TSzx1PR8L5ncCtQ2KoxAw87G00mzM09XK0pwaxBu1QgRmvcJbkCVioUWa2hCeS9Q7qrY1NnoB_pwHx_icX0_SpcH7Xq/s1600/DSCN1598.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgsMpwHuhHo5XUKhyphenhyphenbnARxpub72vR4QE7ZoBMLod97GExdEv7N2TSzx1PR8L5ncCtQ2KoxAw87G00mzM09XK0pwaxBu1QgRmvcJbkCVioUWa2hCeS9Q7qrY1NnoB_pwHx_icX0_SpcH7Xq/s400/DSCN1598.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I was really happy to finish this quilt. It started as a 365 circle quilt but ended up being less circles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt8zHrq8rFPyhIFqgYBtM1GBikmsgHQ75MEwV_7M8t_V_8IgIIrhBUbAlOuNwBgrQU2YLw_bKoDUosgXd3rcE9DASlenQDx26tvyKwNd7-J8TM_jD5yBNLgrxcGn5pOUAtvqlAGRQ91Gcs/s1600/DSCN1594.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt8zHrq8rFPyhIFqgYBtM1GBikmsgHQ75MEwV_7M8t_V_8IgIIrhBUbAlOuNwBgrQU2YLw_bKoDUosgXd3rcE9DASlenQDx26tvyKwNd7-J8TM_jD5yBNLgrxcGn5pOUAtvqlAGRQ91Gcs/s400/DSCN1594.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
There was hours and hours of hand stitching the circles on then I hand quilted around each circle. I did start to hand quilt around the border but it would take far to long and the stripes on the blue fabric would have sent me silly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz6tqVQr4KDR9AEO9_Lq5PilUvmW1AAfrabNoXMvY2OWkeWmmgnkRXJByygpn1yzW549HpoqHjbHrZ7vhQMwGapze-hBSdmC1svwRCBWx-ERirpRgyMsxOAP-zYQWAyhvFNeDWzkUgfEmu/s1600/DSCN1595.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz6tqVQr4KDR9AEO9_Lq5PilUvmW1AAfrabNoXMvY2OWkeWmmgnkRXJByygpn1yzW549HpoqHjbHrZ7vhQMwGapze-hBSdmC1svwRCBWx-ERirpRgyMsxOAP-zYQWAyhvFNeDWzkUgfEmu/s400/DSCN1595.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I already hand the multi coloured thread in my stash. Many years ago I purchased it intending to crochet a doiley but as it only had the weight of the yarn and not the length I didn't want to take the chance of running out of thread. I purchased the pink and green from the local craft shop. The pink was much easier to sew with, the green one was made in China and not such a good quality thread. It tended to fray easier and was harder to pull through while quilting. It is the first time I have used this larger thread on a quilt, I think it adds a bit of dimension rather than using say a ecru thread.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJZvwsTfwuOoxjxGecccAHOThlITSEu5FbcbfM1TPgpZmlXjATKmZljrNMujwvi1SKb0K__y4L5MSjVdCcBq0YPkKFVKcZbJEYNh-tz59sDMyVu_cbccAe1LQH5EoN5OZ62HXV4Gbym4_D/s1600/DSCN1596.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJZvwsTfwuOoxjxGecccAHOThlITSEu5FbcbfM1TPgpZmlXjATKmZljrNMujwvi1SKb0K__y4L5MSjVdCcBq0YPkKFVKcZbJEYNh-tz59sDMyVu_cbccAe1LQH5EoN5OZ62HXV4Gbym4_D/s400/DSCN1596.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I found the perfect backing in my stash. Just the right length and width and the stitches didn't really show up at all. Perfectly camouflaged. This backing fabric came all the way from New Zealand. A few years ago I hand quilted a quilt for my Sister's friend Lisa and she sent me some fabrics as a thank you.<br />
When I started this quilt I was imagining that my stash would magically disappear. Of course it seems just the same.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgSVTHv2MNoPdO5v8fwXQiRKZm2bne2p_BrSzl2_xtWFhkMIjaZX4TyPEXvu56r_2t8_qgAP38z1mY4hAvVYfxIhS6tI-8oyDFDkS7Efel1XDOroLyLiaZAZOxMsgG3bYK8D-QFZ2p-NkG/s1600/DSCN1575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgSVTHv2MNoPdO5v8fwXQiRKZm2bne2p_BrSzl2_xtWFhkMIjaZX4TyPEXvu56r_2t8_qgAP38z1mY4hAvVYfxIhS6tI-8oyDFDkS7Efel1XDOroLyLiaZAZOxMsgG3bYK8D-QFZ2p-NkG/s400/DSCN1575.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Back in January I opened my big sewing fabric cupboard and this lovely blue fabric fell to the floor. It had already been cut out. How many years ago I don't know. I thought it was a sign to make them up into the serviettes. These will be gifted along with the quilt to one of my children.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOKxQGsLP1R0JA6IrxX3DWTwYts7G-FJbj9TdHTolUB8BrROmFC-gD_GlHh4FUkeg1xn4s5onIwK6eII__M0ZSoPtqeV_jkvy561S3dNF5OMAuR_qOqtUL-jJxvwj9n5eaMfdZIRHPeYeW/s1600/DSCN1577.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="640" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOKxQGsLP1R0JA6IrxX3DWTwYts7G-FJbj9TdHTolUB8BrROmFC-gD_GlHh4FUkeg1xn4s5onIwK6eII__M0ZSoPtqeV_jkvy561S3dNF5OMAuR_qOqtUL-jJxvwj9n5eaMfdZIRHPeYeW/s400/DSCN1577.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course after making one lot of serviettes I had a look through and found this length of cherry fabric that was probably meant to be used in patchwork blocks. I am a sucker for pink so made a set of serviettes for us to use. Most of my serviettes are white which isn't really practical so having these on hand is wonderful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwKF_QM7dycTgamZK9bRvzvSVE7icx2t6pZPd1ejI2zhBjd-b1ghQq01-JZBYa9njMDneJdK2iX9SIQYadAJRk00b4nT4oTAYRrk1n1EC6KWNXhFpLYWKX_z33DY97Y1HUepkA1T7xqQBy/s1600/DSCN1600.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwKF_QM7dycTgamZK9bRvzvSVE7icx2t6pZPd1ejI2zhBjd-b1ghQq01-JZBYa9njMDneJdK2iX9SIQYadAJRk00b4nT4oTAYRrk1n1EC6KWNXhFpLYWKX_z33DY97Y1HUepkA1T7xqQBy/s400/DSCN1600.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Every now and again my sister Chris gets asked "Your sister sews doesn't she?" Of course she replies<br />
" Yes but she hasn't done much sewing for a while". So when Chris visited from New Zealand late last year she came with bags of fabric for me to make something. The fabric all comes from t-shirts from the <a href="https://www.surfline.co.nz/">Surfline</a> Factory in Ruakaka in New Zealand. I have divided the fabric into different projects. I have some cushions partially made and blocks that will be made into a quilt. I have found some fabric in my stash that will be made into scarfs, just need to applique on the logo's. I made this table runner with marine images to go with the Surfline logo's. So project number one is done. Oh and the shells in the photo come from New Zealand. Part of Lucy's collection of shells gathered while she lived in New Zealand.<br />
<br />
I will have a bit of a break from crafting this week as Lucy and I are off on a road trip tomorrow. Which I know will be memorable to say the least!<br />
<br />
Whatever you are doing have fun this week. Please tell me what you are working on, I would love to hear all about it.<br />
<br />
Oh and exciting news, WE HAD RAIN this week a whole 8.5mls. it was so lovely to wake to the sound of rain on the roof.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
I have just about finished the work on the Claremont Home. The actual building has been stitched for a while. I did all that bit at the start of last year. I took it along to crochet each Tuesday to stitch but then it was up to the part where a lot of counting had to be done. You can't count, stitch and chat at the same time. So into the darkness it went for a while.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1ea68mlsvWy_uoApuOtMZS35_HHbpSkzBnOtnXQ2_6cpsmToOULGy00WCVcw3plUtSnqckpM1BWTIwOl_B5JceG4Xovj8Zobi8O2_uG0CAXPP49AYDhvmcfujiZ7KFgmFYs3DJu6cPLn/s1600/DSCN1549+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl1ea68mlsvWy_uoApuOtMZS35_HHbpSkzBnOtnXQ2_6cpsmToOULGy00WCVcw3plUtSnqckpM1BWTIwOl_B5JceG4Xovj8Zobi8O2_uG0CAXPP49AYDhvmcfujiZ7KFgmFYs3DJu6cPLn/s400/DSCN1549+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Seeing I am finishing up projects this year I decided it was time to stitch again and the landscaping needed doing. January is a good time to sit inside from the heat and stitch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6BW2bglOtXBXDvKamIgSjs_2ACwaNASYGK24KgN85ueF7HKDHYfS-QPXwhBHo63PadXTELj3o5t8ngV8CG_7L7fQd2A5px951rP30l6v7IUvIU06qK4YphxeZSGH1J3_y2lZKe_g1E7l2/s1600/DSCN1568+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6BW2bglOtXBXDvKamIgSjs_2ACwaNASYGK24KgN85ueF7HKDHYfS-QPXwhBHo63PadXTELj3o5t8ngV8CG_7L7fQd2A5px951rP30l6v7IUvIU06qK4YphxeZSGH1J3_y2lZKe_g1E7l2/s400/DSCN1568+%25282%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Now I am onto the dreaded back stitching. I find this rather boring and tedious, similar to doing dishes for hours on end! I will most likely make it into a cushion cover.<br />
<br />
The other project I have picked up again is the 365 Circle quilt which was started a few years ago. The idea was to do a block which contained a circle each day. Well mine has turned into a 240 circle quilt. I know that I could continue but it is such a great size now so why mess with that theory.<br />
<br />

I used up lots of scraps of calico and similar fabrics for the background fabrics. I had forgotten how much pressing you do when it comes to patchwork. I pressed the seams apart instead of to one side. Though when it came to joining the rows together I just pressed them up. I know that is being slack but in the end the recipient's won't be worried about this.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have since added a blue border to the edges. Next week I plan to purchase wadding. Hopefully I will find some fabric in the sewing room for the backing.<br />
<br />
I found a lovely note book in my sewing room that a friend had given me a few years ago. It has a embroidered cover. I have finally decided to write in it so have the first page filled up with items that need to be completed. Hopefully over the coming months I can tick a few off. <br />
<br />
Have you got projects planned for the year? I would love to hear how you tackle them. Do you start a new project as a reward after finishing a few or not?<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
Sometimes you make craft kits without realising it. That is you make all the parts of the project but you just don't get it completed. That is what happened with the following two projects.<br />
<br />
First off I had plans to make Bonnie a shopping bag for her Birthday which was in October just gone. I managed to get it to her a few days before Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-qaEeFqfk3cJP1QrNELEjzakhh0TYYEUHDb05TPTOo51LwPR9EO-8ooHfaajYuCeK4rWuQIOHkhYFFUgO78XvDvuC_etEi25DxzbFMDR3S5i8RIQHdJ9rn2qGvdW9TDoAi-foqfK-O39d/s1600/DSCN1543+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-qaEeFqfk3cJP1QrNELEjzakhh0TYYEUHDb05TPTOo51LwPR9EO-8ooHfaajYuCeK4rWuQIOHkhYFFUgO78XvDvuC_etEi25DxzbFMDR3S5i8RIQHdJ9rn2qGvdW9TDoAi-foqfK-O39d/s400/DSCN1543+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I used up a Canteen bandana for part of the lining. This fabric suited the base of the bag perfectly. The sale of bandana's support young people with cancer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNieo1fxYDCKfzuwq_ap6GihwiP_7Aw7IqfnFGYIrXQd-286EpvXgTj-0rWRifcpz8ALKADENW9BFDmItDHGZTqe1wuInJmw5S5s3cj4Fv3okD0BIbzg_49IUawzGR9fms33czAG2n1P6D/s1600/DSCN1544+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNieo1fxYDCKfzuwq_ap6GihwiP_7Aw7IqfnFGYIrXQd-286EpvXgTj-0rWRifcpz8ALKADENW9BFDmItDHGZTqe1wuInJmw5S5s3cj4Fv3okD0BIbzg_49IUawzGR9fms33czAG2n1P6D/s400/DSCN1544+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I followed partially a pattern I found at Atic24 blog then made the rest up myself. <br />
I used up a roll and a half of Bricklayers string which I purchased from Bunnings. It was so lovely to crochet with. I will have to look out for another pattern to finish of the string I have. It was much cheaper to crochet with this than cotton yarn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFJxLGOZkRWypVwooEoclNmoGELWdCf0k-L5Q5X55_u7tKHLqkE7pebeILTMgMb72mCIvxDPwPoQDNdOIzpp8_RMXJzW8T9W1qjIC2kZv_zfk45hx3gBiVagjUxqan8-CpNISMYlnNkwpQ/s1600/DSCN1545+%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFJxLGOZkRWypVwooEoclNmoGELWdCf0k-L5Q5X55_u7tKHLqkE7pebeILTMgMb72mCIvxDPwPoQDNdOIzpp8_RMXJzW8T9W1qjIC2kZv_zfk45hx3gBiVagjUxqan8-CpNISMYlnNkwpQ/s400/DSCN1545+%25281%2529.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I hand sewed the lining to the bag with a suitable matching DMC embroidery thread. The buttons are more or less decorative but also help hold the handles to the bag. Bonnie absolutely loved the colour of the bag and was most appreciative.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
My other kit I had made up was this pillowslip. It only sat in my sewing room for about two years. Twenty minutes of sewing and ironing and it was done. This will be shared with Jacob and Jude, so handy to have Grandies with the same initial!<br />
<br />

Following on the theme of gnomes. This little fellow is now residing near a tree stump in Gnomesville. One of the newest residents having arrived late November 2019. I visited Gnomesville two times last year. The second time I made sure we had a gnome to leave. I lost count of the towns we called into around here and down closer to Gnomesville to find a gnome. Luckily we found this one at the Tourist Bureau in Dardanup. He was signed by us and left to do his work. In case you haven't heard of Gnomesville, it is one of the top hundred things to do while in Australia. There are over 10 000 gnomes etc there. You can explain to people what it is like but nothing prepares you for the sight of 10 000 gnomes. Both times I have been there it has been busy with people from all over the world. We were lucky to find this tree stump with no other gnomes. I can guarantee by now he has lots of gnome friends with him.<br />
<br />
I have recently built a house called Claremont, all went well and now I am up to the landscaping. I will share some more in my next post.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
Happy Monday,<br />
<br />
What small child doesn't know or love Peppa Pig. Our two Grandies just love watching Peppa and George. I decided to make Peppa. I did have plans to make George and Mumma Pig etc but honestly Peppa will be it.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5pGk1SSiMgcDEVpVy5IHrTeT7XYu7WfdAwMdAm9Q3IlV4vStXKdGElKykun7XTmI90KoMw_OExti4Q8jD8GlX-2yKZbp6BbQqkNmKKiem7clJ-2wdC_JvZWxuYnzJO4ED1-5r8csonYcu/s1600/Peppa+Pig..jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="598" data-original-width="460" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5pGk1SSiMgcDEVpVy5IHrTeT7XYu7WfdAwMdAm9Q3IlV4vStXKdGElKykun7XTmI90KoMw_OExti4Q8jD8GlX-2yKZbp6BbQqkNmKKiem7clJ-2wdC_JvZWxuYnzJO4ED1-5r8csonYcu/s400/Peppa+Pig..jpg" width="307" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Peppa Pig was made in 2017.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I purchased the pattern from a Etsy seller. Unfortunately for me it was written the way American's crochet with their terms. After lots of deciphering on my part I managed to get Peppa together. I used wool for this project as the boys will be cuddling and holding her a lot. Wool is so much nicer to crochet with too.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear what is making you happy this Monday. Please let me know.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

</div>
Hello,<br />
<br />
I hope your week has gone well. This week I picked our first Luffa from the garden.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxzixqaVEHZgZ2KbikeV-idGAopUfzzOkrtYfWbFq2_CzCtt0KMk9iNwIKcDemUraNHiU6xeiQNAwcv9qMCqTbWSXp6fGdn0q-SHASWtZm4JA7FLPzxKOj84uAnB54xMLJdQF8KXzHNqxl/s1600/DSCN1391.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxzixqaVEHZgZ2KbikeV-idGAopUfzzOkrtYfWbFq2_CzCtt0KMk9iNwIKcDemUraNHiU6xeiQNAwcv9qMCqTbWSXp6fGdn0q-SHASWtZm4JA7FLPzxKOj84uAnB54xMLJdQF8KXzHNqxl/s400/DSCN1391.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I had been waiting for one of them to dry on the vine, I have a little while for the one in the photo to dry out. When they are brown on the outside and dry you pick them then peel of the outer layer. Leave to dry completely and remove the seeds from inside.<br />
<br />
You are then left with a lovely luffa to use for a body scrubber or for scrubbing dishes or even put a little in your soap making. The bonus is I have lots of seeds to share. When the luffa are small they can also be eaten, very similar to a zucchini I think.<br />

</div>
Hello,<br />
<br />
Well my motivation to craft has finally returned. A bigger break than I thought but that is life.<br />
<br />
Upon pulling out the hexagons and being realistic I decided to break the hexagons into two quilts. One for me and one for someone else. Nothing better than getting two quilts out of one.<br />

So it was a case of finding the box that contained all the calico/white fabrics. Lots of hexies cut and finally I have one quilt top. I didn't worry about if the calico were all the same colour after all it is a scrap quilt.<br />
<br />
I did find a you tube video that showed how to finish the quilt which means I have to make some more small hexies for the binding part. This way the shape of the edges of the quilt will remain the same rather than adding a border fabric to the quilt top.<br />
<br />
Stitching by hand is rather time consuming, but oh so relaxing. I did time myself doing one section and realised how long it would take me to finish the white hexies. At least the top part is done now.<br />
<br />
Do you add up how many hours a project takes? I would love to hear.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
What a great start to 2017. I managed to tick one off the bucket list.<br />

We had tickets to the Hopman Cup to see Roger Federer play on Monday. We were part of the record breaking crowd. Definitely the best night of sport and sportsmanship I have seen. No wonder they call him Mr Perfect.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This year we got tickets alongside the court, perfect viewing. EXCEPT for the biggest man ever sitting right in front of me. I should have let Ian go in first! When he went to sit down I thought he wasn't going to fit in the seat. We watched him squeeze himself in. The armchair rests do have a bit of give. To think I was worried about a lady outside who was big. Apart from that it was a great afternoon/evening of Tennis. So much goes on that you don't see on TV.<br />
As per usual we stayed at our favourite Bed and Breakfast in Bedford after.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

The Apricot tree has finished for the season. We started picking only a few then it was a bowlful every day. Even had enough to make some jam one day. Looking forward to the next tree producing early in the year.<br />

Sewing and crafting took a back seat this month but I did manage to do two more face washers for Jacob and Jude for Christmas. Designs are from Kreative Kiwi.<br />

I found two tea towels that were blank in the sewing room. The Christmas design is from Urban Threads and the Kiwi is from Kreative Kiwi.<br />

As 2016 comes to a close I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I hope 2017 brings Peace and Happiness to you all.<br />

<br />
November has passed in a blur of busyness. Lots of things happened that certainly weren't planned and are continuing for a bit. I have my fingers crossed all will be well with everyone soon.<br />
<br />
I did manage to get some Christmas decorations made up on the embroidery machine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfCeEO_smLp7aJbQefnzB5n3zIdh9XAN7TokC3ApD1TySf4UPXa5eQPqhlxFdfQQ98OvgdobfkDfFZt4Pm_N5wLMNjHQs3J_C1omSjrhlm_85t3Q9yqK-gwQ2IAgCD-A3psgpb1I_L5XVI/s1600/Kainga+1622.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfCeEO_smLp7aJbQefnzB5n3zIdh9XAN7TokC3ApD1TySf4UPXa5eQPqhlxFdfQQ98OvgdobfkDfFZt4Pm_N5wLMNjHQs3J_C1omSjrhlm_85t3Q9yqK-gwQ2IAgCD-A3psgpb1I_L5XVI/s400/Kainga+1622.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
These were a free design from <a href="http://www.cmemag.com/index.html">Creative Machine Embroidery site</a>. I didn't have glitter to put in them so used some small white beads for the snow. Instead of using felt on the back I had some snow globe Christmas fabric left over from last year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkwmPY9O4GB7622iDdfdrrwuJ5klYg1o3uCOdLVDtdF1WsD3SMZwQcwuNQUxj-jaSmEBt9qEHKt-4wLZlxl-FhLs3Hg9vPG3dpQpUJre_FiSMGqS7b7m0ENqIYSK41bV_yjifvHRd643Qm/s1600/Kainga+1627.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkwmPY9O4GB7622iDdfdrrwuJ5klYg1o3uCOdLVDtdF1WsD3SMZwQcwuNQUxj-jaSmEBt9qEHKt-4wLZlxl-FhLs3Hg9vPG3dpQpUJre_FiSMGqS7b7m0ENqIYSK41bV_yjifvHRd643Qm/s400/Kainga+1627.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I purchased a couple of designs from <a href="https://www.kreativekiwiembroidery.co.nz/">Kreative Kiwi Embroidery designs</a> and have made a start on the popular swirly place mats. I still need to wash out the wash-away from the edges. The "Construction Set" is perfect for the little boys in my life. I enlarged the design a little and have two of the designs stitched out on some face washers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Thanks to our children we were treated to a day at the Regal Theatre watching Fawlty Towers. Or should I say Farty Towels.(You need to go to the show to see what I mean by that!!!) What a great show, so many laughs and the actors were fantastic. My favourite was Manuel, he was the spitting image and had the actions down pat. It was sad to see that the actor Andrew Sachs who played him in the show passed away.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I hope to get back into the sewing room some time very soon and I also need to attend to a lot of dead heading roses in the garden.<br />
<br />
Enjoy your weekend.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

Happy Monday.<br />
<br />
A quick visit to Good Sammy's last week saw me come out with this little bookshelf for the princely sum of three dollars.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifroaJgQHmEj-b83QDouPBZQT33ZKac8iZsWG0cwuGBQGUe4-Ic2dgplga9t21v2n4SBFiOXmcplqxlZq8Q2yrm1IdgvDThLtqVov-utqITC2wR2EtViW7wC5BjHspMh9FiGwFyLj3xBXf/s1600/Kainga+1603.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifroaJgQHmEj-b83QDouPBZQT33ZKac8iZsWG0cwuGBQGUe4-Ic2dgplga9t21v2n4SBFiOXmcplqxlZq8Q2yrm1IdgvDThLtqVov-utqITC2wR2EtViW7wC5BjHspMh9FiGwFyLj3xBXf/s400/Kainga+1603.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It had one of the hooks missing so Ian managed to cut out a piece of wood and add some paint. Jacob and Jude loved it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMGLIYDqN5YaPKipngc5mVTrqK5dH_eqtApKxPDqoEWY0-gCKXes1ot_R-nQRVH-8c7EDS0zAK3Rk3boTCJAh5GRy2o3iOLuHlDg9xSLEMNTk0hYR_OAG50mr-OvQvCH_9ZsI_bjuzUCR/s1600/Kainga+1615.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoMGLIYDqN5YaPKipngc5mVTrqK5dH_eqtApKxPDqoEWY0-gCKXes1ot_R-nQRVH-8c7EDS0zAK3Rk3boTCJAh5GRy2o3iOLuHlDg9xSLEMNTk0hYR_OAG50mr-OvQvCH_9ZsI_bjuzUCR/s400/Kainga+1615.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So then I was able to use the freebie embroidery cars design that I had saved a while ago to make up two pillow cases.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSb1V4bHMH3xxtfkgQqKXZ5MTZgvOcv_JR_feDSX51zZUpOtyQ3rZs6b8m47mWkLWsvVfeUGfj0GeUcLR-eh-xh8Z5qCblh4GYcYY8uye8VglQtGoP53vTMOOBsEOHNb_dyu5cuw4Fx8Y/s1600/Kainga+1601.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRSb1V4bHMH3xxtfkgQqKXZ5MTZgvOcv_JR_feDSX51zZUpOtyQ3rZs6b8m47mWkLWsvVfeUGfj0GeUcLR-eh-xh8Z5qCblh4GYcYY8uye8VglQtGoP53vTMOOBsEOHNb_dyu5cuw4Fx8Y/s400/Kainga+1601.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The garden has been keeping us busy. A couple of loads of sheep manure and some lupin mulch have been added to lots of the plants. The citrus trees have supplied us and family with more than enough mandarin, lemon and oranges. Potato, broad beans, onions, garlic, cauliflower, lettuce etc are picked on a daily basis<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnjXgRKdn8YRir8vYeHrrUJgguTmAqee_7Z0_f005aiRqZK5C82UzxJEdWi8VrsflBT73ioEmpG1MLKPUlvIGijjygcjGmLoLeDZy0a1vIpgykPIPSUsmsjAV8akd8otS_O2WjqikdaTgi/s1600/Kainga+1617.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnjXgRKdn8YRir8vYeHrrUJgguTmAqee_7Z0_f005aiRqZK5C82UzxJEdWi8VrsflBT73ioEmpG1MLKPUlvIGijjygcjGmLoLeDZy0a1vIpgykPIPSUsmsjAV8akd8otS_O2WjqikdaTgi/s400/Kainga+1617.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It has been a very happy Monday with the completion of the black hexagons. I know there is a way to go with this quilt. I really don't want to count how many more I have to cut out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So I will be happy to put the hexies away for a while. The embroidery machine is calling for me to sew up some of the designs I have saved.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear what is making you happy this week.<br />
<br />
Happy Monday.<br />

Happy Monday.<br />
<br />
Making me happy this Monday are my hexagons.<br />

The to do pile is less than the done pile which is a good feeling. This is a slow stitching project which I pick up and work on in the evenings. If I have a night or two not stitching so be it.<br />
<br />
We visited another open garden on Sunday. This one was aptly named Krannynook in Helena Valley.<br />
As we pulled up to park we realised we had visited this garden before. There is so much to see in this garden that you could visit it again and again and find something new.<br />

Every available space was filled with plants and ornaments. There were lots of twists and turns as you walked through the garden. Surprise places to sit or hide were everywhere. The one thing I did think while wandering through the garden that it would be very hard to work out where someone was if you wanted them.<br />
<br />
Saturday I was happy to go to a garage sale run by two crafty ladies. I managed to pick up some embroidery threads a few cross stitch patterns and several metres of fabric. One of the ladies owned a craft shop years ago and is de-cluttering. There was so much I could have taken home but one has to be realistic. Someone who does a lot of knitting or crocheting would have been in heaven with the amount of wool that was for sale.<br />
<br />
So what is making you happy this week? I would love to hear.<br />

Happy Monday.<br />

<br />
Do you say Merry Christmas or Happy Christmas. I always think that it should be Merry Christmas and Happy belongs with Easter. You see I found an adorable cross stitch design that is available at the <a href="http://www.shepherdsbush.net/">Shepherds Bush </a> website. It had Happy Christmas on the design so I changed it to Merry Christmas.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made it into a little hanger for the Christmas tree or for decoration around the home. I added a few buttons from my stash and used the thread which belonged to my Nana to stitch on the ric-rac. The green floral fabric which has little birds as well was used for the backing. I used the recommended DMC threads except for three which I didn't have so used some Puppets threads.</div>

The other garden we went to last week was in Bickley on 3 and a quarter acres. So there was lots to look at. The garden owner is a qualified horticulturist and sells plants at markets etc. She has a range that is not available in garden centres. It was wonderful to see everything in bloom.Once again it was a cold windy day, which seems to be typical of our Spring weather this year but you have to endure a few hardships in life!<br />

<br />
Happy Monday, apologies for no post last week, was worn out from being out and about.<br />
<br />
So what has been making me happy for the past weeks. Garden visiting for a start. After the demise of the Australian Open Garden Scheme a group of West Australian gardeners decided to open a new scheme called West Coast gardens. It officially opened this month and we went to two gardens on the weekend of the opening. The first one was in Kalamunda. My goodness this garden was nothing short of amazing. It was very hard to take photo's as there were so many visitors. Apologies to anyone who is in the photo's, it was impossible not to have people in them. It was just like visiting France with a touch of Italy thrown in for good measure.<br />

Just part of the back yard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The owner got in a well known garden designer/gardener to do this part of the garden. From my understanding the owner did the front yard herself, sorry no photo's of this but it was equally amazing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e_ryAqP1-71J_D8tEXOrE4dmt3mNqmyq4pFLxaqzSlaP63eOHWF30Osf85VWjaAPBW5ztPn8JAxpRbWYhKNzMwBKsF7ilJV1eBZJHzt8zuDManxoZPHkjVyCyWigD36tX74H5jxW_w04/s1600/Kainga+1547.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1e_ryAqP1-71J_D8tEXOrE4dmt3mNqmyq4pFLxaqzSlaP63eOHWF30Osf85VWjaAPBW5ztPn8JAxpRbWYhKNzMwBKsF7ilJV1eBZJHzt8zuDManxoZPHkjVyCyWigD36tX74H5jxW_w04/s400/Kainga+1547.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The back yard is right next to the national park with views across Perth. It doesn't really show in this photo but there is quite a drop here at the edge. How it was done with the gravel rocks suited the style of garden perfectly matching the bush and the garden.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
More of the back yard from the upstairs section of the home.There was garden everywhere!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrCBV6tXshWeiLg1bKfk_KV3vejd1h0iFozO-PxuuK-VjewC4gTtNQXnTHxKxZpfuMKVG6Zu9C1Rw1hssewTDp2Q-4BruqU8SlhwGweIaWbLFdor1CtoPpCuRL8V5r8Ia71xJikfOBgSFe/s1600/Kainga+1550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrCBV6tXshWeiLg1bKfk_KV3vejd1h0iFozO-PxuuK-VjewC4gTtNQXnTHxKxZpfuMKVG6Zu9C1Rw1hssewTDp2Q-4BruqU8SlhwGweIaWbLFdor1CtoPpCuRL8V5r8Ia71xJikfOBgSFe/s400/Kainga+1550.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I had serious Clivea envy with many pots of these in full bloom on the verandah's.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV7PCPDsseh6qGwEMwMhd13FQQkAtOcDkiwyG6Ulc7u08TfEo2c9YyBqGie09PceM_cj3GbNdDxZVqoAQGC2TyRoHcr-tUTCwfAWQiVAgYoIXQgHFi9OmHaj2psPVRrVJmsreBPBneRGeN/s1600/Kainga+1546.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV7PCPDsseh6qGwEMwMhd13FQQkAtOcDkiwyG6Ulc7u08TfEo2c9YyBqGie09PceM_cj3GbNdDxZVqoAQGC2TyRoHcr-tUTCwfAWQiVAgYoIXQgHFi9OmHaj2psPVRrVJmsreBPBneRGeN/s400/Kainga+1546.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Now how much mulch does a garden like this need? plenty.<br />
<br />
After this it was onto the next garden in Mount Lawley.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WEdz9yOa6ECncEPfCvst54aHKw9AAiOZRJJZgzAmz34UuPXP3nSy3l4njjw2d0YLqMsvQiQZoN2Oj_-iD_tpQDwtkJ_TfY0dnSeAYdnjai3yW6lC6uqKCTINNMoVexX2xxs0cmudQXZp/s1600/Kainga+1553.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5WEdz9yOa6ECncEPfCvst54aHKw9AAiOZRJJZgzAmz34UuPXP3nSy3l4njjw2d0YLqMsvQiQZoN2Oj_-iD_tpQDwtkJ_TfY0dnSeAYdnjai3yW6lC6uqKCTINNMoVexX2xxs0cmudQXZp/s400/Kainga+1553.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This garden belonged to one of the organisers and was lovely. The garden belongs to a home that is 100 years old. A more cottage style garden at the front.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfuzn5ww5IL_5br8-JC2fj7sLTQqfnQqEy1w7Opc6ZoDBaOzm1AyiNi6cynD4yFVszkVC3JJUeAzmcUHrtUinS__jFPaOdWLsf9i77BeDqISUdyxv8aObwZNiHwnsxEEvQOeQ9rRgcRxWT/s1600/Kainga+1554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfuzn5ww5IL_5br8-JC2fj7sLTQqfnQqEy1w7Opc6ZoDBaOzm1AyiNi6cynD4yFVszkVC3JJUeAzmcUHrtUinS__jFPaOdWLsf9i77BeDqISUdyxv8aObwZNiHwnsxEEvQOeQ9rRgcRxWT/s400/Kainga+1554.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Parts of the backyard had been recently re-done and I loved this raised bed of succulents. Once again it was standing room only.<br />
<br />
Two very different gardens but the main thing to come from it was we have to plant plants according to our climate and mulch mulch and more mulch.<br />
<br />
Then during the week we took the opportunity to watch several hours of sheepdog trials.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-U5kWO0kgPpatu7yNjqFxy7rsjuqoi_N95Hye2jg09VwsQlpmTx31RnBxh4-BcRpn8aR3L3m0K10STyOZ4ey5SV6WXRis7vpDQCw0EJ4eCc62pre9MRisFxnz2joJ9tCbenBgkXcajHtK/s1600/Kainga+1565.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-U5kWO0kgPpatu7yNjqFxy7rsjuqoi_N95Hye2jg09VwsQlpmTx31RnBxh4-BcRpn8aR3L3m0K10STyOZ4ey5SV6WXRis7vpDQCw0EJ4eCc62pre9MRisFxnz2joJ9tCbenBgkXcajHtK/s400/Kainga+1565.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The Australian Supreme Sheepdog trials were held at the local Rec Centre. There were dogs from across Australia and New Zealand competing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD-LuAQFkk6wyDes1QZJzxkpmWRTSRR5MvUoE4NA4phoHCuWOH6LXgEr3NOp2lBU2GMDCXwK72o_bnVqYHkuvmhQXF6xs4Jt7X3Qi646VASkaCioGP94TrPnMC-sHYGLyHmzHFFBZB-Bt5/s1600/Kainga+1566.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD-LuAQFkk6wyDes1QZJzxkpmWRTSRR5MvUoE4NA4phoHCuWOH6LXgEr3NOp2lBU2GMDCXwK72o_bnVqYHkuvmhQXF6xs4Jt7X3Qi646VASkaCioGP94TrPnMC-sHYGLyHmzHFFBZB-Bt5/s400/Kainga+1566.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It was interesting to see the way the dogs responded to the commands of the owner. The ones who used a whistle instead of talking to the dogs seemed to do better or maybe it was just the ones we watched.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOoCr7uIJn7-j13ctnrCH_9UvL8aQvv6-iz68SKmB2y7684CM2SO2j48dThz-YXhj5pLnZW0KvnkcpN4HhWXdnQQGuq2QHQ3mubawN9pUTuBiEpx2MTGbXQnS_WHSbTELsYKB2rqsLA9XV/s1600/Kainga+1569.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOoCr7uIJn7-j13ctnrCH_9UvL8aQvv6-iz68SKmB2y7684CM2SO2j48dThz-YXhj5pLnZW0KvnkcpN4HhWXdnQQGuq2QHQ3mubawN9pUTuBiEpx2MTGbXQnS_WHSbTELsYKB2rqsLA9XV/s400/Kainga+1569.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Last week was all about getting a few things done in the kitchen. Lots of soap making over a couple of days and making up batches of Kombucha and Kefir Water. I also made up a batch of <a href="http://www.quirkycooking.com.au/2015/08/fermented-salsa/">Fermented Salsa,</a> from the Quirky Cooking blog. I followed the recipe but didn't really want to add 100 grams of Chillie as the ones I grow are very hot so added 20 grams of my chillie and 80 grams of Capsicum.This is so yummy I could just eat it by itself.<br />
<br />
I am so happy that the garden scheme is up and running. We visited another garden on Saturday but will share those photo's later in the week.<br />
<br />
What has been making you happy lately?<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
Happy Monday,<br />
<br />
Today I am very happy to reveal the mystery cross stitch project. I joined in the mystery stitch that was being run by <a href="http://jurapointdecroix.canalblog.com/">http://jurapointdecroix.canalblog.com/</a> We were given 4 different designs and we could choose one or all 4 of the designs to stitch into whatever we wanted to. We had 3 months to complete it but of course I only started half way through September.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFMQ9WyXcLISavD_EJZCNXHGzoiTZL7CANInGK5ctJH_-fblvz_g-INeN7V5FltGoo48-DR0xKIlgjaa09q89BJ9lfDDLb8v2XAlt5ylUQqaQkEkEJP62XIKDCxxiFh-3kUCsYatSMXxYB/s1600/Kainga+1530.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFMQ9WyXcLISavD_EJZCNXHGzoiTZL7CANInGK5ctJH_-fblvz_g-INeN7V5FltGoo48-DR0xKIlgjaa09q89BJ9lfDDLb8v2XAlt5ylUQqaQkEkEJP62XIKDCxxiFh-3kUCsYatSMXxYB/s400/Kainga+1530.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had recently picked up a piece of 14 count Aida cloth at Good Sammy's so decided to use that and added three inches around the stitching design. These measurements paid a big part in the end as when I started stitching I had no idea what I would make it into. Luckily the piece fitted the front panel of a Messenger style bag that I found the free pattern for on the Internet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzspTsSPYizTTESeQVFG1gxZ28-p5D5odsqlgSl4jSLpHSVtGHHZewkVddvZq3_TrDbtjjaGRdNui3cs4_xGm7uzjtD4moPXIIgoNOhJc2_GYeWTokT981ODAeP2AufnrT_zG44fe7kkFX/s1600/Kainga+1532.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzspTsSPYizTTESeQVFG1gxZ28-p5D5odsqlgSl4jSLpHSVtGHHZewkVddvZq3_TrDbtjjaGRdNui3cs4_xGm7uzjtD4moPXIIgoNOhJc2_GYeWTokT981ODAeP2AufnrT_zG44fe7kkFX/s400/Kainga+1532.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I did leave a bit of the stitching out on the bottom and added the little Bee charms.<br />

I used two fat quarters that my Sister Chris was never going to use so she sent them to me. They were purchased at the Stone Store in Kerikeri in New Zealand.There were several hundred ladies from across the world involved in the mystery stitch along so make sure you keep checking the <a href="http://jurapointdecroix.canalblog.com/">blog</a> to see what everyone made. The free pattern for the bag is available from Lisa's blog which is called <a href="http://www.twoprettypoppets.com/blog/">Two Pretty Poppets.</a><br />

On Sunday we attended the Inaugural West Australian Act-Belong-Commit Permaculture Festival held in Middle Swan. What a wonderful time we had, lots of interesting stalls and so well set out. Beautiful food vans, I went back to the lady we purchased our lunch from and told her how delicious her food was. Just wish this type of healthy food was available at all shows. A big hint to those who organise the craft shows! I was so busy talking about the food with Ian when he stopped me and said "Isn't that the guy." Of course I had no idea who he was talking about because Ian had forgotten his name. He pointed him out and it was the curly headed West Australian gardener Josh from my must watch show each week Gardening Australia. . The most interesting part of the day was I took the opportunity to sit down and do some basket weaving. I have never been so relaxed while doing a craft. I would have stayed much longer and do more weaving but we had family and Grandies to visit. I used several different types of plants but the main one was from a Peppermint tree so the basket has a beautiful perfume to it. The lady does run classes so I am tempted to go to one the only thing is it is a few hours away.<br />
<br />
What has been making you happy lately, I would love to hear.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
You would be excused for thinking that I haven't been sewing this month but there has been a bit of stitching going on.<br />
I finished the scooter basket which was a project I found in Homespun Magazine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4RC1EXs5sYuxi-rfvTNdQXamHmHGjZRRM9ZB3uh3hPPxMTjg1shDx2O5vl0thp4OOcK3JPyfP7r1ZdwqifhBk3SX7fH9YGvf7cT1dyCLakTOPlCs3zAzyWiazX4QuptbhftSYxWP-2YiL/s1600/Kainga+1440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4RC1EXs5sYuxi-rfvTNdQXamHmHGjZRRM9ZB3uh3hPPxMTjg1shDx2O5vl0thp4OOcK3JPyfP7r1ZdwqifhBk3SX7fH9YGvf7cT1dyCLakTOPlCs3zAzyWiazX4QuptbhftSYxWP-2YiL/s400/Kainga+1440.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I changed a few things around. The original pattern had a rather cute Vespa applique on the basket front. This is Jacob's scooter but seeing they are so close in age they will be sharing most toys and I thought it would be a good idea to replace the applique with a J that I had digitized and sewed it with my embroidery machine. I also put the top handles a little closer to the middle of the basket. I also added a press stud to hold the basket closed. This way Jacob can scoot around with his favourite toy the little yellow digger and not worry about it falling out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I used some pirated themed fabric, which showcases the wheel of the pirate shop as both boys are into pirates in a big way. <a href="http://kaingahappenings.blogspot.com.au/2015/11/its-all-about-pirates-and-christmas.html">Pirate Boy </a>and <a href="http://kaingahappenings.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/alexander-crochet-rabbit-and-what-is.html">Alexander Rabbit</a> had to come along for the photo shoot.<br />

<br />
These two little cross stitch wall hangings are in the mail and on the way to my two great nieces who live in Italy.<br />
<br />
I have finished another cross stitch which has been turned into something but can't be revealed until next month.<br />
<br />
Have you managed to get some stitching done this month?<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

We saw all these stunning wildflowers and so many more at the Old Well at Dalwallinu.<br />
There were so many tourists travelling around looking at the wildflowers and the picnic area in the centre of Dalwallinu was packed to the brim. We had a lovely chat to the lady who was volunteering at the little craft shop who told us the history of the building which was a old court house. It still has the judges bench and a cell which had a very realistic man laying on the mattress.<br />
<br />
Have you had a chance to have a look at your local wildflowers? <br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
Happy Monday.<br />
<br />
There are some things that remain constant throughout my life. Each and every year I look forward to seeing the Dandelions bloom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I think we are lucky to have this view only a minute or two from our home.<br />
<br />

Even the smell of Dandelion's is so fresh. No wonder it blooms in Spring.<br />

The bonus is the farmer will most likely put some sheep in here soon and we will be able to pick up some manure on our walks.<br />

I planted out a punnet of Cauliflower, English Spinach and Bok Choy. As well as Kale which I grown from seed, Carrot and Beetroot seeds were planted all by the square foot method. The square foot method is when you divide the bed into square foot sections and plant "x" amount of plants in that section according to how big they will grow.<br />

There is a protective cover to protect from the frost or heat and bugs. At the top of the cover there is a spray system set up and you only need to water when the soil gets dry. The plants are growing in a wonderful soil that is especially made up for growing in this type of bed. You can see the depth of the bed in the above photo.<br />

The Vegiepod has a self-watering bed underneath which uses the wicking system to water the vegies. During Summer this will be a great asset.<br />
<br />
It is wonderful to see how quickly these vegies have grown. The bonus is no bugs and they are organic. Picking what we need for each meal has been a real treat. We do have lots of other raised vegie beds but this one wins hands down.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear if you grow vegies.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />

<br />
The sewing machine has had a bit of a workout the past few days.<br />

<br /></div>
I stitched this one for a dear friend, it went in the post yesterday.<br />

Choosing designs to go in the hexagon flowers has been a lot of fun. I made a boo-boo on the one in the top right hand corner. I started unpicking but chose the easy way out and found a design for a little bug. Problem solved.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Making these with scraps has been a great way to use up the smaller fabric pieces. I have one more hexie to complete and embroider then comes the not so interesting part of making heaps of plain coloured hexagons to go between the flowers.<br />
<br />
The weekend is upon us, exciting news for me, the Local Farmers Markets start tomorrow on a fortnightly basis.I certainly hope they have some lovely suppliers.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend.<br />
<br />
Happy days.<br />
