"Butterfly's Bluebirds and Friday Night Sew In."

Hello,

I hope your weekend is going well. During the week I finished the little Bluebird Cross Stitch into a wall hanging.

 This was stitched on 25 count Dublin Linen using DMC threads Numbers 312 3829 and 3838. Once again this was a freebie provided by http://lacontesselepointdecroix.blogspot.com.au/. The Bluebird flew from Kainga this week in this lovely card made by Bobbie Lynn. Bobbie Lynn had sent me this card with a letter inside and made it so it was re-usable. Thanks so much for your letter Bobbie Lynn, your kindness is much appreciated.

Last night was Friday Night Sew In, during the afternoon I completed the simple quilting on my "Country Store" wall hanging and sewed on the binding during the evening. I then had time to get some more hexies organised for my Hexagon project. If you joined in Friday Night Sew In I hope you got lots done.Special thanks to Wendy for hosting the evening.

"Multi skilled."

 Walked the dog.

"One Project a Month for May."

Happy June,

I managed to finish some projects last month.

Though I haven't quite finished this applique wall hanging. I have the bottom half to go. So many tiny pieces in this one.

 The little bluebirds cross stitch was completed but is yet to be made into something.

I did make up some more Tuelle fruit bags for Ainsley and Julian to use when shopping.

How did you get on with your sewing in May? I would love to hear what you are working on.

"A new hexie project."

There is nothing quite like Telstra playing up, that's OK as last Friday I was planning to spend sometime looking at blogs but with no Internet service this was put on hold. Instead I ventured into my sewing room and had a bit of a look through drawers and de-stashed a few patterns which I know I will most likely never make again. In one of the drawers was a pile of calico and homespun in assorted sizes. A plan was hatching.
After using my hexagon shape punch to make some hexies from old photocopied patterns, a sort through fabric and now I have a new project.

I took out the papers from the calico hexies and machine embroidered a design. Each hexie flower will have a different design in the centre. There is no "real plan" I will see how it goes as I go along. Who knows I may end up with heaps of cushions or one big quilt. The main thing is to use up the scraps of calico and homespun and as I have lots of little pieces of the other fabrics it will be a great stash buster.

The best thing about a hexie project is the hand sewing. I love hand sewing much to some people's disgust. Why is it that a lot of patch worker's only use machines and detest hand sewing. Maybe someone can do a University thesis on this subject!

"Peace."

 Hello,

I hope you are enjoying some peace and sunshine like us here at Kainga.

Peace design in DMC 777, stitched on 25 count Belfast Linen.

I have been going through some of my cross stitch patterns that I have downloaded over the years. This Peace design was a freebie from h/http://lacontesselepointdecroix.blogspot.com.au/ I left out a few random background stitches. I don't like threads running across the back of the design. I made it into a mug mat or it could be used just as a small table centre.

I really wanted to make the whole back out of hexagons but didn't have enough of this fabric. Instead of quilting the mug mat I used a chain stitch. It was good to use up bits and pieces from the sewing room.

 For the past 18 months we have been buying our fruit and veg from Farmers Markets in the Perth Hills. Whilst these provide fruit and veg that is so much better than what the supermarkets provide we have also discovered some places that sell at their orchard.

 Earlier on in the month one of the orchards had a open day and we were able to walk around the orchard and eat fruit straight off the trees.

They have also planted hundreds of Italian grapes. Building is currently underway to open a restaurant in Spring. You certainly don't get a view like this if you shop at a supermarket.
