"The Claremont Home and 240 Circle Quilt."

Hello,

I have just about finished the work on the Claremont Home. The actual building has been stitched for a while. I did all that bit at the start of last year. I took it along to crochet each Tuesday to stitch but then it was up to the part where a lot of counting had to be done. You can't count, stitch and chat at the same time. So into the darkness it went for a while.

Seeing I am finishing up projects this year I decided it was time to stitch again and the landscaping needed doing. January is a good time to sit inside from the heat and stitch.

Now I am onto the dreaded back stitching. I find this rather boring and tedious, similar to doing dishes for hours on end! I will most likely make it into a cushion cover.

The other project I have picked up again is the 365 Circle quilt which was started a few years ago. The idea was to do a block which contained a circle each day. Well mine has turned into a 240 circle quilt. I know that I could continue but it is such a great size now so why mess with that theory.

I used up lots of scraps of calico and similar fabrics for the background fabrics. I had forgotten how much pressing you do when it comes to patchwork. I pressed the seams apart instead of to one side. Though when it came to joining the rows together I just pressed them up. I know that is being slack but in the end the recipient's won't be worried about this.

I have since added a blue border to the edges. Next week I plan to purchase wadding. Hopefully I will find some fabric in the sewing room for the backing.

I found a lovely note book in my sewing room that a friend had given me a few years ago. It has a embroidered cover. I have finally decided to write in it so have the first page filled up with items that need to be completed. Hopefully over the coming months I can tick a few off.

Have you got projects planned for the year? I would love to hear how you tackle them. Do you start a new project as a reward after finishing a few or not?

Happy days.
Bev C

It seems to me that I have not visited your lovely place for a very long while. That is a sweet little cross stitch house and your circles are lovely. My, that is a big project. Fabulous to once again visit you Bev. I have just followed you again. I have no reason why Blogger caused me to unfollow you. =)

Bev, how very very wonderful to see you're blogging again!! I SO very much enjoyed this post. It does seem that a lot of folks are getting back into cross-stitching lately. Your Claremont is just lovely! I was a stitcher for years and years...until I started quilting. I actually should start a stitching project to work on when I'm someplace waiting and can't be at my machine. And your circle quilt! I agree, it's large enough at 240! Whomever is the recipient will love it!

Claremont house is so pretty.... it will be gorgeous. I do love circle quilts and have a box of circles to put together myself! Good idea to use your pretty book..... yes, I list up all my UFO's each year (make a blog page) and try to keep focussed on that.... new things do come along of course...

And great work with the circle quilt.
Yes, I also plan to try to finish off a few projects that have been put aside for a while.

Love the Claremont cross stitching. I used to do counted cross stitching, but some years ago quilting took over my life. Love the circle quilt too, great way to use scraps. ...and I really like your last sentence! No, I don't, but I love the idea to reward myself with a new project after each finish! :) I'm in a team and we have a UFO challenge this year to finish one UFO each month.

Hello Bev,

Thank you for visiting over to my blog. I'm glad you enjoyed the garden photos. A beautiful needle work there Bev and what a lovely pattern. Great quilt front and I love all the different fabric. I have a lot of fabric pieces that I need to put to use. I did a few small mini quilts for Opie. They were fun sewing projects without any stress involved, just sew different size strips or blocks that were left over. Yes, I have a long list that include finishing up a quilt that I'm trying out. A new quilting technique, quilt as you go. Not new, the technique has been out for a while but a blog "Quilting In the Rain" inspired me to give it a try. This month just going through my craft closet and home for some yearly decluttering. I hope to be back at the craft table to finish up my quilt. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day.
Blessings!
