Scraps make Quilts.

Hello,

Last night was Friday-Night-Sew-In. This year is all about using up what I have in my sewing room so the project for FNSI was all out of my big bag of scraps.

I cut 2 inch by 9.5 inch strips. Dividing these into light value colours and dark/medium colours. 6 strips of the light colours were sewn together then 6 strips of the dark/medium were sewn together in another block. These were then placed right sides together and a diagonal line was drawn on the wrong side of the light coloured blocks from the bottom left hand corner to the right top corner. Then sewing took place 1/4 inch either side of the line. Then cutting along the drawn line produced the blocks in the photo.
I have yet to make some quarter-square triangles for the sides and corners.

This is a great project to use up your scraps because you can join pieces together to make the strips. I did this in some of the lighter material.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you on "Happy Monday"

What a creative block for using up scraps. I'm anxious to see more of this. Looks like you accomplished quite a bit on FNSI!

what a great idea Bev! I have so many scraps of fabric, lots of odd shapes from the Jingle Sox that would be perfect for cutting into these strips... I shall borrow this idea if that is okay!
Hope you are having a great weekend!

You are onto something with using as many scraps as possible. I love scrappy quilts.
This is the first time I've been able to join in on the Sew-In and was excited to get something finished.
Take care.

Ooooo yes great idea. I'm with Jenny and would love to borrow this too. I bet I would have enough fabric to make 10 good sized quilts. And your blocks are such a quick and easy way to make them up.
Thanks for sharing!

hahahaha Bev I have scrap boxes and I just never seem to be getting to the bottom of them... I try to make most of my applique quilts out of them and have been making lots and lots of string blocks for future quick quilts... they still seem to be over flowing... love your idea and will have to try that as well xxx

What a great way to put the scraps together. It helps when joining the pieces doesn't effect the pattern. You made lots!
