Tuesday"s Treasures

Hello,

Welcome to Tuesday's Treasures hosted by Melody. This week I want to share with you my scissor collection.

I guess it isn't a huge collection compared to other peoples but they do me just fine. The bigger pair with green handles are my favourite and still cut well after nearly 29 years. I got these free with my first sewing machine. There is a fold up pair which is very handy and some curved scissors for cutting thread and material whilst doing machine embroidery.

Now I bet you remember your Mother telling you to never run with scissors and always to hand over scissors in the correct way. Did your Mother tell you not to put your scissors on the edge of the lounge chair you are sitting on and letting them slip down the side. I mustn't have been listening when I was told this. On Saturday I was doing some stitching and just to let you know I do have a little stool beside the recliner rocker that I sit on. I did put the scissors back on that. Though every now and again I put it on the side of the chair. Of course they fell through to the bottom and I was able to reach it. This happened once or twice and then on the third time I couldn't retrieve the little pink scissors. I got up and turned the chair over so the scissors would fall to the back of the bottom of the chair. Of course I could get my hand in. Then I moved my hand along a bit further. OMG I couldn't pull my hand back out. Thoughts of pushing the chair across to the phone and calling for help were on my mind. Luckily Ian came down from the shed and was able to push the chair apart after several long moments and managed to pull my hand out. Bruised and scratched but we did get the scissors out in the end. So from now on my scissors will be on the tray on the stool beside my chair. I wonder where you keep your scissors when you stitch.

Make sure you see what other Treasures are being shown this week.

Happy days.
Bev C

You poor thing - your the first person I've known to be stuck in a chair. Thanks for sharing this fascinating tale.

Ouch Bev...just as well Ian was home to help you out of it all!!! You have a nice collection there...I don't know about those fold up ones...are they specifically for machine embroidery? Dzintra

Who said we don't suffer for our art. You poor thing. Mine go down the side all the time but so far have always fallen straight through. I love your collection of scissors. They become like all friends don't they...even though you get a new pair you still rely on the old tried and true.

Sorry but I had a wee chuckle at your expense;o) I could just imagine my husband leaving me there! Lol (no seriously he would rescue me but at great expense)
Then I had to go and count how many pairs of scissors I have;o)

lovely scissor collection.
I usually have them on my lap and when I get sometimes I stab myself!
I have a lovely 'crazy lady' scissor holder that I use too when I am not being lazy.
Glad you got your hand out the chair. Would make stitching difficult! lol

I love your scissors collection. I am afraid I just can't imagine you stuck in the chair. Perhaps I need to be very careful in future :)

lovely collection Bev, I especially love the little fairy scissors - have seen them in Textile traders and wanted to buy them... So glad Ian got there in time to save you -- who new you could get your hand trapped in a recliner!!?
Hope you are enjoying the rain, I am loving it, the smell of stew on the stove and the sound of the rain makes me so happy !(doesn't take much lol!)
Hugs!

Oh that must have hurt , I tend to put my scissors on the arm of the chair too , maybe I better use the table instead ;-) Great collection of scissors.

I would say that was cause enough to justify buying a few back up pair of scissors. If one "slips" you do not have to risk hand and dignity to rescue it.

To make you feel better, you are not the only one this has happened to. Bad chair!

You have a lot of scissors! I bet I have more than I realize too. And I do have a couple favorites. I hope you've had that pair with the green handle sharpened once or twice in the 29 years you've owned them!

I have a pair of the pink embroidery scissors also...that I've put in a safe place...needless to say I can't find them...LOL!! Do you have to move your toes quickly also when you drop your pointy machine embroidery scissors? A great collection Bev!
Cheers....Jane.
